A dozen students from the Boxing Club at Georgia Tech participated in the United States Intercollegiate Boxing Association championships in Macon, Georgia, with two taking home national championships.

Dylan Holley, a business administration major, won fights on the first, second, and third days of competition to become a national champion. Bryan Lopez, who attends Georgia Gwinnett College but practices with the Tech team, also became a national champion. The students were coached by Teri Moss, head coach of the team and a member of the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame. Fourth-year student Andres Romero serves as president.

Other participants at nationals were:

  • Loyce Agboola
  • Shaddi Buchanan
  • Abigail Carlsen
  • Nina Clifford
  • Dimitrios Mahairas
  • Xavier Manigault
  • Kevin McCollum
  • John Roberts
  • Blake Suiter
  • Sheryl Tan
  • Daniel Tikalsky
  • Michael Zhang

“Fighting at such a high level like nationals, back-to-back days, is very different from the single fight ‘College Fight Night’ events that we do,” said Tyler Roche, a computer engineering major and member of the club. “We’re very proud of our members and for being successful at such a high level.”

The Boxing Club practices at Buckhead Boxing, about 15 minutes from campus, and has nearly 200 members. Students can try their hand at the sport and the club free of charge during the club’s free week each fall. Learn more at gtboxing.com.
