Anyone at the Institute, including students, faculty and staff can volunteer to serve as an Advisor. Only Georgia Tech Faculty and Staff can serve as a Hearing Panelist (only for student hearings)

What is an Institute Advisor?

An Institute Advisor is an individual who provides support and assistance to students, faculty and staff who are involved in a Sexual Misconduct/Title IX grievance process. This can include tasks like attending meetings with parties during the Sexual Misconduct/ Title IX Grievance process and assisting/preparing questions for Sexual Misconduct/Title IX hearings.

What is a Hearing Panelist?

Hearing Panelists are neutral decision makers who serve on a three-person hearing panel to assess the facts and circumstances of an alleged violation of the Sexual Misconduct Policy. The members of the hearing panel determine whether a policy violation has occurred and decide whether/what sanctions are appropriate.

Can I be an Institute Advisor or Hearing Panelist if I do not have any experience in these roles?

Yes! Our office will provide training the week of October 7th for everyone interested in becoming an Institute Advisor or Hearing Panelist. The training will be mandatory for you to participate as an Institute Advisor and/or Hearing Panelist.
