Basic set-up and uses for Layout Builder

Drupal 8's Layout Builder allows content editors and site builders to easily and quickly create visual layouts for displaying content. Users can customize how content is arranged on a single page, or across types of content, or even create custom landing pages with an easy to use drag-and-drop interface.

Step 1

The first step to utilizing Layout Builder is by first adding a new "Basic page".* From the Drupal admin select the following to get started:

Content > Add Content > Basic Page

Step 2

First give you new basic page a title. The will also become your url path (exp. http:// example.com/my-page-title).

*Other options are available at this stage if desired:

*You can add a Menu Link and leave the page unpublished if desired.

Step 3

To access the Layout Builder to add content select the "Layout" button to open the layout editor.

Step 4

Next select "Add Section" for multiple columns or "Add Block" for a full width block. 

Step 5

During this step a window will slide out from the left with the option to select a 1-4 column layout.

Step 6

After selecting a column layout you will have the option to select column widths to fit a desired layout.

Step 7

Now you can begin to add your content and select from a series of custom GT blocks to fit a wide range of layout needs.
